If someone asks, "Do you know where you’re going when you die?" you don't have to wonder. In fact, you were made to know that you will live eternally with the Father in heaven.

So, how can you answer that question with certainty?

1. Believe God’s promises as revealed in His holy Word, the Bible

You receive eternal life in heaven through God’s son, Jesus Christ. This truth is consistent throughout the Bible. You can bank on it!

Read for yourself the gospel of John, paying close attention to the many emphases on eternal life. Consider Christ’s words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:1-2) And also: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28).

2. Rely on the Holy Spirit

God has deposited His Holy Spirit within you. Take confidence in the truth He speaks to you.

“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

Jesus said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:26-27).

3. Take joy in your eternal security

Rejoice as you anticipate eternity with Christ in heaven! Be confident and unashamed to tell others where you’re headed – not because of anything you have done, but by the grace of Christ alone.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

“So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord… This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1: 8-10).
