Genesis isn’t typically where I would start when explaining Christ’s mission in coming to earth. However, God is so amazing. He speaks to us through the Scriptures in ways we would never expect. So, let's begin at the beginning. 

As the Creator of the entire universe, God created galaxies, oceans, mountains, animals, and even insects. So likewise, every type of tree, blade of grass, and every single human being is His creation.

Genesis 2:7 says, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” Then in verse 18, it says, “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” But for Adam, “there was not found a helper fit for him.”

The Scripture continues, in Genesis 2:21-23, “So, the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept, took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, ‘This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be call Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’”

What strikes me about Genesis is that when God was done creating the earth and everything in it, He said, “It is good.” That means, His creation of man and woman is good.

God, the Creator of the entire universe, created you and me, and He created us in His image! Because we were created in His image, we were never intended to suffer hardship, pain, or evil.

So, what can we learn from Genesis?

God placed Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, in the garden of Eden. It was perfect. He told them to enjoy it and only gave them one rule: to not eat from the tree of good and evil. However, when Adam and Eve sinned, it caused a separation from God. Sin ruined our ability to be in God’s presence for eternity. Now, before you go blaming Adam and Eve, think back over the past week. Did you feel envious, tell a lie, worship something other than God?  We all sin. That sin creates a barrier to God’s holiness. But, here’s the amazing beautiful goodness of the Lord. He loved us so much; He provided a way back to Him so that we can fellowship and enjoy eternal life with Him.

How did this happen? God came to us!

Immediately God came to Adam and Eve to explain the consequences of their sin. They were cast out of the garden, where they would suffer greatly for their sin. But through sacrifice, God provided a way back to Himself. He didn’t want them or us to be separated from His holy presence, so He sent His Own Son to die for our sin. His holiness required a blood sacrifice, and that sacrifice was Jesus Christ. The reason Jesus came was to die on the cross and shed His blood as an atonement for our sins. And, He was the only one who could do it because He is perfect and never sinned. He overcame death, and on the third day, Christ rose from the grave.

Because of sin, we experience suffering. As a result, some of us have mental, emotional or physical pain. We get lost when difficulties come. However, we can trust the Lord. He came for you. If you were the only human on earth, He still would have come for you. His mission is to provide a way to the Holy Father, and all you have to do is confess your sin and accept His free gift of salvation.

How then do we accept Christ? 

How do we come to Jesus? 

• Ask God to forgive your sins—these are the wrongs you have done.
• Thank Jesus for paying the price for your sins. 
• Ask Jesus to be your Savior and give you a new life in Him.
• Read God’s Word and pray to Him so you can grow in your new life.
• Connect with a church body and other believers. 

Remember that as God’s child, His love for you is immeasurable. You can trust Him.
